Mike Parrish's family have farmed the land at Kelvedon Hatch for several generations. In the early Cold War, the government issued a compulsory purchase order on their land to construct a secret nuclear bunker. The family had no idea of the precise purpose of what was being constructed because the area was heavily guarded and protected from prying eyes.
The existence of this bunker was to be kept secret at all cost. Eventually, they gained an idea of what had been built and continued to farm the land above it as a cover for it ever being discovered by the public.
In the 1990s, after the collapse of Communism and the end of the Cold War, Mike was able to purchase the bunker back from the government. He now protects its history by running it as a museum.
